book cover

“The Expanded Quotable Einstein” includes about 375 new quotations and covers topics that have recently appeared in the media--such as the most current research on Einstein’s brain, the possible collaboration of his wife Mileva in his work, and the newly discovered love letters that Einstein sent to an alleged Soviet spy. An entirely new section on music has been added, the section on science has been expanded greatly, and new photographs add fresh visual appeal. Finally, the new appendix contains an account of the editor’s personal peek into the FBI’s Einstein file and shows us Einstein’s famous letter to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, which ushered in the atomic age in the United States.

Source of the Einstein quote that we use with our Creative Process Einstein poster:
“I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”
--‘What Life Means to Einstein: An Interview by George Sylvester Viereck,’ for the October 26, 1929 issue of The Saturday Evening Post.

bookcover

Driving Mr. Albert by Michael Paterniti - The often-embellished story of what happened to Einstein's brain (when he was done using it) has all the makings of a great urban legend. But, as Michael Paterniti reveals in "Driving Mr. Albert," truth is still stranger than fiction. Hitch a ride on this postmodern science road trip as Paterniti and elderly pathologist Thomas Harvey chauffeur the brain across the United States.

E=mc2: A Biography of the World’s Most Famous Equation by David Bodanis - Generations have grown up knowing the equation E=mc2 changed the shape of our world, but have never understood what it actually means and why it is so significant. In fact, Einstein did nothing less than open the door to the inner structure of the universe.

Einstein’s Dreams by Alan P. Lightman - An imaginary re-creation of Einstein's discovery of the nature of time, this novel takes us through the young patent clerk's many dreams depicting compelling conceptions of time.

Einstein's Unfinished Symphony: Listening to the Sounds of Space-Time - We all know that water and sound move in waves-but gravity? In Marcia Bartusiak's new book, we are introduced to the physics of gravity waves-or vibrations in space-time. We learn about the new generation of observatories, now being completed worldwide, that will give astronomers not just a new window on the cosmos but a whole new sense with which to explore the heavens.

Einstein in Love: A Scientific Romance - An acclaimed science writer's insightful and revelatory biography of young Einstein--teenager in love, draft dodger, bohemian, poet, and scientist--drawing upon many unpublished letters and years of research.

The Meaning of Relativity by Albert Einstein - Four lectures delivered in 1921 at Princeton University constituted an overview of his then controversial theory of relativity.

Relativity: The Special and the General Theory by Albert Einstein - a collection of Einstein's own popular writings on his work and describes the meaning of his main theories in a way virtually everyone can understand.

Einstein's Universe by Nigel Calder - Relativity Made Plain-the Amazing Achievement of Albert Einstein and What it Means Today

Black Holes and Time Warps: Einstein's Outrageous Legacy by Kip S. Thorne - In this masterfully written and brilliantly informed work, Dr. Thorne, the Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics at Caltech, leads readers through an elegant, always human, tapestry of interlocking themes, answering the great question: what principles control our universe and why do physicists think they know what they know? Features an introduction by Stephen Hawking.

Einstein: A Life in Science by Michael White, John Gribbin (Contributor) - The authors present both a vivid portrait of Einstein the man and the most accesible explanation of his scientific thought ever published. They provide startling revelations, including material on Einstein's troubles with the FBI, his illegitimate child, his two marriages, and evidence that he may have suffered from schizophrenia.

Time: A Traveler's Guide by Clifford A. Pickover - The thought that humans might one day be able to harness time, traveling freely from one age to another, has been a fixture of science fiction for years. Science fact is beginning to catch up to the long-held dream: in this entertaining survey, researcher-writer Clifford Pickover observes that current theories of physics support--or at least do not rule out--the possibilities of time travel.

Surfing Through Hyperspace by Clifford Pickover - Clifford Pickover is IBM's Renaissance-guy-in-residence. His job is to play with cool ideas--time travel, extraterrestrials, and the line between genius and crackpot. His latest game is an oldie but goodie: trying to imagine the fourth dimension.

A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking - Marking the tenth anniversary of a worldwide science classic, this fully updated edition is enriched with a new Introduction by Professor Hawking and an entirely new chapter on wormholes and time travel.

The Book of the Cosmos: Imagining the Universe from Heraclitus to Hawking by Dennis Danielson (Editor) - A sweeping account of humanity's evolving vision of the universe, as viewed through the writings of the most exceptional thinkers in history.

Time Machines: Time Travel in Physics, Metaphysics, and Science by Paul J. Nahin - explores the ideas of time travel from the first account in English literature to the latest theories by today's physicists.

Black Holes, Wormholes & Time Machines by Jim Al-Khalili - Leading us gently and light-heartedly through the dizzying world of our space and time, the author ultimately gives us the recipe for a possible time machine, capable of taking us Back to the Future, to Alice's Wonderland or on a trip with the Terminator.

Faster: The Acceleration of Just About Everything by James Gleick - We have become a quick-reflexed, multitasking, channel-flipping, fast-forwarding species. We don't completely understand it, and we're not altogether happy about it. Faster is a mirror held up to our times -- and a mordant reminder of why some things take time.

Architects fo Peace: Visions of Hope n Words and Images by Michael Collopy and Walter Cronckite - Seventy-five of the world's peacemakers - spiritual leaders, activists, scientists, writers - appear in this tribute to the power of nonviolence. Photographer Michael Collopy combines his original tritone portraits of these luminaries, from Nelson Mandela to the Dalai Lama, with moving statements on peace in their own words - most written especially for this book. Including 16 Nobel Peace Prize laureates as well as less known heroes such as Bosnian diarist Nadja Halilbegovich, Architects of Peace offers a message of hope for humanity.

366 Ways to Peace by Melodie Davis - This is a perpetual calendar-use it year after year, and be inspired by the eloquent testimony of people who have lived, worked and spoken out for peace.

Driven to Distraction : Recognizing and Coping With Attention Deficit Disorder from Childhood Through Adulthood by Edward M. Hallowell, John J. Ratey

This fast-rising bestseller is a clear, inspiring book about attention deficit disorder written by two doctors who--like Mozart and Einstein--have ADD themselves and know how families can cope with it.

When I was researching the ADD title above I came across the highly recommended book Women With Attention Deficit Disorder. I am not the OneWhirldWebWorker for nothing! (Maybe I can make an Ecard about this, ...or that...... 8-)) I should also recommend Please Understand Me II: Temperament, Character, Intelligence by David Keirsey.
