A Ladder Stands
in a Kiva

The kiva is a room designated for religious rituals among both the Ancient and modern Pueblo Peoples. Kivas were generally circular, are entered through a hole in the roof and have a hearth near the center. A kiva is generally circular, though not always; earliest kivas were subterranean, later kivas were built above ground, and some with towers.
