Apache is the collective name for indigenous peoples of North America that share related Southern Athabaskan languages. The groups include the Navaho, Western Apache, Chiricahua, Mescalero, Jicarilla, Lipan, and Plains Apache (Kiowa-Apache). The Apache were historically fearless defenders of their traditions and territory against the Spanish conquistador and European settlers.
